IED WEBINAR - COVID-19 RECOVERY AND BEYOND: WHAT ARE OUR PRIORITIES FOR STRUCTURES AND FUNDING TO SUPPORT LOCAL ECONOMIES?
The current Planning for the Future consultation, the forthcoming English Devolution White Paper and the Comprehensive Spending Review: three huge policy developments for economic development and regeneration practitioners that could transform the professional landscape as we know it. The issue of economic recovery and development in the wake of Covid-19 is understandably the immediate priority for government, but the longer term challenge on having the appropriate infrastructure in place to support local economies to deliver a sustainable future for economic growth requires careful consideration. Delivering economic recovery, implementing local industrial strategies and attracting investment are uppermost in the minds of those responsible for economic development, even in an exceptionally challenging financial time for many organisations (and without any clear detail as yet on the proposed UK Shared Prosperity Fund). All this, of course, is taking place against the backdrop of the government’s signature New Deal for Britain and levelling up agenda, and with the implications of Brexit still not fully understood.
In response, we have pulled together an expert panel to allow anyone with an interest in economic development and regeneration to hear from leading professionals on these challenges and their views on the way forward. This webinar is essential for anyone working in economic development and regeneration, public, private and third sector. Delegates on the webinar will have the opportunity to pose questions to the panel, and share thinking themselves, in an interactive one-hour session.
Chair: Nigel Wilcock, Executive Director, Institute of Economic Development
