IED Online Conference: Understanding Building Back Better 25th - 26th May 2021

The Institute of Economic Development is hosting an important Conference as the Covid-19 pandemic reaches its next stage in the UK. As the UK finishes its roadmap out of lockdown we explore what Building Back Better actually means. Is this just a phrase that has caught media attention or can rebuilding change our past economic approaches and result in lower carbon, greater social value, investment in skills and more effective economic delivery mechanisms.

We will discuss these themes over our online one-day conference that spans an afternoon, an opportunity for an evening networking session and then continues the following morning.

Day 1, 25th May: 1.15pm - 5.40pm followed by IED Open House networking 5.40pm - 6.15pm

Day 2, 26th May: 8.15am - 12.45pm.

Among Conference’s host of policymaker and practitioner perspectives during May 25/26, ‘Understanding Building Back Better’ will feature a notable Day 1 panel providing ‘Perspectives from the Frontline of Levelling-Up’.

Peter Sutton of the Towns Fund Funding Delivering Division in MHCLG’s Cities and Local Growth Unit and Steve Cox, executive director for place and economy at Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, will be joined by Joanna Rowelle, senior responsible owner at Towns Fund Delivery Partner to explore the Towns Fund’s impact and lessons learned.

Towns Fund Delivery Partner will also host a breakfast seminar on May 26. Chaired by Katie Hickman, managing consultant at the Nichols Group, ‘Delivering for Towns’ will highlight how towns can benefit from the Towns Fund with TFDP’s support.

Important Information

This conference will take place online via Zoom, so please ensure your devices are Zoom enabled before purchasing your ticket.

When you purchase a ticket, you will have the option to pay immediately by card, or you can request an invoice to be sent to you (and will be given instructions on how to contact us with specific invoice requirements). All payment need to be processed by May 25th.

Nearer to the date of the event (and once all payments have been processed) someone from the IED will be in touch with you with the two Zoom links to access the event. There will be a Zoom link for Day 1 and another for Day 2. You will need to enter a passcode (which we will provide). It is a condition of sale that you agree to not pass on access links to anyone else. This will be monitored and anyone attending the event who has not already purchased a ticket will be removed.
