IED and Copper Consultancy webinar: Attitudes to economic development

25 Feb 2021 - Online via Zoom 2-3pm

How the public view investment in places and how better engagement can help deliver successful projects

Copper specialises in stakeholder engagement and communications for economic development and major infrastructure projects. Their latest research focuses on economic development and specifically how the public view and engage with plans to invest in the places where they live, work and play. With Robert Jenrick’s acknowledgement that local government’s handling of the pandemic “builds the case for devolution”, prospectuses for the Levelling Up and Shared Prosperity Funds could bring further opportunities for locally-led regeneration. But how can those charged with shaping visions and developing plans for our places ensure they have buy-in from the communities they serve? This webinar will use Copper’s research to explore how organisations can improve community engagement to make the case for investment and deliver impactful projects. Key themes for discussion will include:

- How can awareness of economic development plans and projects be improved?
- What impact has COVID-19 had on community engagement?
- What are the barriers to engagement and how can they be overcome?
- What role can engagement play in securing investment in places?
- What are the implications of the research for public and private sector organisations involved in economic development?

The webinar will take place at 14:00-15:00 Thursday 25 February 2021 and will be chaired by Bev Hurley, Chair of the IED
