Important – this is a series of 3 webinars each running for 90 minutes on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th June 2026.
Run by the Institute of Economic Development Executive Director, Nigel Wilcock.
This is an introduction to the development of business cases for the public sector โ and how to avoid the five cases model kicking the enthusiasm out of proposed projects. The course will consider:
โข The strategic outline case
โข The outline business case
โข The full business case
The course will consider the level of detail required in each case and the proportionality of the case versus the size of the public sector contribution.
The course will then use real examples to work through the requirements of:
โข The Strategic Case
โข The Economic Case
โข The Commercial Case
โข The Financial Case
โข The Management Case
The course will also consider how project alternatives are worked through and also how the economic outputs are calculated.
The course will include the latest thinking on the HM Treasury change to Green Book guidance current at the time of the session. We will also update participants on how Green Book is applicable to latest funding programmes, where this has been announced by the Government.
