Our UK Development & Strategic Advisory Team operates across the UK advising public and private sector clients on a wide range of property, regeneration and economic development related challenges. It comprises around 50 professional staff including Chartered Surveyors, Town Planners and Economic Development Specialists/Economists. Within this we have a dedicated Economic Development & Appraisal Team, led by Ben Pretty, specialising in business case development and appraisal, case making, economic impact assessment and economic analysis and research.

We advise clients on all aspects of economic development and growth, focusing particularly on property and place economics, where there is a distinct relationship to the built environment. We are able to apply our market facing property expertise to our leading economic development offer to bring market reality to our advice – this sets us apart from many traditional economic development practitioners. We are retained advisors to Homes England on its Strategic Research, Economics and Evaluation Framework Panel as well to a number of Mayoral Combined Authorities, Local Authorities and private sector developers nationally.

We are experts in the application of the latest HMT Green Book and MHCLG Appraisal Guide methodologies to inform our case making and economic appraisal work. Our work has assisted to secure over £300m of public sector funding over the past 2 years alone.

  • Liverpool City Region MCA / West Yorkshire CA / East Midlands MCA – retained long term Brownfield Housing Fund advisor including economic, business case and viability appraisal advice.
  • Homes England – Strategic Outline and Full Business Case development for a regeneration scheme in Sheffield City Centre of over 1,400 units – secured £67m BIL investment approval predicated on the wider external impacts of delivery.
  • Homes England – advising on the development of economic cases for 2 further city centre schemes of over 2,500 new homes in Sheffield
  • Home Office – economic impact assessment of proposed new national asylum processing centre
  • Plymouth City Centre – supporting the Council with the development of a business case for BIL investment from Homes England with a strong focus on wider area impacts.
  • Croydon Town Centre – development of a strategic outline business case seeking public sector investment support for a major transformational regeneration scheme of over 3,000 new homes.

  • Best Practice in Urban Regeneration Research – on behalf of Homes England included over 30 national and international case studies

  • Dorset Innovation Park Enterprise Zone – advised Dorset Council and the LEP on the market opportunities, economic benefits and rates benefits of the DIP strategic employment site, focusing on key sector opportunities.
